Dying To Live The Abundant Life

Jesus said “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it.” Matthew 10:39

In the Congo, the way that the men catch a monkey is a vivid picture of the “dying to live” principle. A jar is tied to a tree, with a nut strategically fixed at the bottom. The nut can be accessed only through a single, small hole in the jar designed to accommodate the monkey’s outstretched fingers. Access to the nut is easy, but when the monkey clasps the nut, making a fist, his hand cannot be withdrawn and the monkey is trapped. In order to get its hand out of the jar, the monkey will have to loosen its fist and let go of the prize. If he would only let go, he could easily pull out his hand and be free.

The refusal to give up the prized possession results in a deathly consequence. He gains a nut but loses his life. What prized possession is keeping you from living the abundant life?

Strategic Biblical Counseling

If you have been waiting for someone to write a practical and effective book on Biblical counseling, this book is for you! Christians today are seeking professional psychological services in increasing numbers. The local church has always been a community resource for people in emotional need, but Christian psychology has marginalized pastoral and Biblical counseling. It is time to return the ministry of pastoral counseling to the church. What Christian counselors need is a model of biblical counseling that is simple, doctrinally sound, and strategic. Dr. Burts says: I journeyed away from God because of confusion about my identity in Christ. Upon discovering these truths, I became impassioned to advance personal spiritual growth in the church through the ministry of Biblical counseling. I have used the principles of Strategic Biblical Counseling for many years with great success. People are changed as they understand who they are and what they have ‘in Christ.’

Come Up Higher

by Altha Burts and Janet Prince

Is God Enough to Rebuild a Shattered Life? “For years I have searched for a book like this one. Altha Burts openly reveals her long struggle to discover her true identity. Her mother died when she was a child. Her father ignored her. Men sexually abused her. She felt worthless, guilty, angry, and confused. Her search for meaning drove her into a lifestyle of emotional dependence, sexual confusion, and drugs, finally resulting in a mental breakdown. Then she found Christ. Now, she became God’s beloved child-not a father’s neglected daughter.

Did she change? Yes! But gradually. Committed to new life in Christ, Altha was led by the Lord into a process of transformation which surfaced the underlying issues resulting from abuse and emotional deprivation. Those issues, formerly appeased by drugs and dependent relationships, could no longer be ignored. Could she now face the crippling feelings of inadequacy, anger, and depression, as well as overcome bulimia and anorexia? Find out how God met Altha’s pressing needs. In the process, you will discover that He is more than able to meet yours, too.” -Dr. Ed Murphy, former VP of OC International and part-time Associate Professor at San Jose Christian College and is presently serving as Senior Advisor for Africa ministry Network.
